Janan Al-Asady

Dr Kamal Field Al-Basri earned his PhD from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in 1985 and has held academic positions at a number of universities around the UK (including University of London).  In 1997 he moved to the financial sector and worked for a number of international financial institutions, including GE Capital, Barclays and Lloyds TSB.

In 2003, he moved to Iraq where he served as an Advisor to the Ministry of Trade during the Coalition Provisional Authority, and subsequently as Deputy Minister of Finance and as the Economic Advisor in the "Advisory Bureau" at the Prime Minister Office.

He founded the Iraqi Institute for Economic Reform, one of the leading think-tanks in the country, where his current role is Director of Research.

He has contributed to many economic policy papers and has published several academic and non-academic papers in the UK and Iraq.

Kamal Field al-Basri

Janan al-Asady is a practicing commercial barrister with an LLM in Corporate and Commercial Law from UCL.  She is PhD at SOAS writing a thesis on the legal framework of the Iraqi oil industry in addition to the wider scope of economic and legal development in the oil and gas sector in the MENA region.

Janan has prepared papers  for the Iraqi Government and think tanks as well as presenting at and attending a variety of conferences.  Publications include Iraq: the Need for Comprehensive Oil Legislation in Iraq.  International Energy law Review 2012 1:8-13; Time to Review Insurers’ Duty of Good Faith.  Lloyds List 27 April 2010. Leath Al-Obaidi

Leath Al Obaidi is a MSc. Economics student at the University of Nottingham. Previously he did his BSc. in Economics at the University of Vienna. He is currently Managing Editor and Secretary for the Iraqi Economists Network (IEN) and Editor for MacroDigest in London. He has been published in the peer-reviewed ClinicoEconomics and Outcomes Research and in the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies’ (WIIW) monthly review, where he completed an internship. Before this, he also did an internship for the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in Vienna.
